Consumer Protection

Consumers in New Jersey are protected by one of the strongest and broadest Consumer Protection laws in the United States. The law, known as the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, can be found at N.J.S.A. 56:8-1, et seq., and protects consumers from any kind of fraud, misrepresentation, omission or unconscionable commercial practice in connection with the sale of goods, services or real estate.

In addition to the broad general categories of conduct the Consumer Fraud Act prohibits, there are many specific laws, rules and regulations that fall under the umbrella of the Consumer Fraud Act. These laws, rules and regulations create specific rules that businesses and service providers must follow when dealing with customers..

If you feel like you have been taken advantage of by a large corporation, small business or any service provider, you may be entitled to the protections of the Consumer Fraud Act. If you have lost money or property as a result of a business’ unlawful practices, you could be entitled to an award of three times your actual damages, as well as reasonable attorney’s fees. Trimble & Register advocates for all types of consumers, in disputes large or small.
